VALE FRANK EGAN, SECRETARY, BLUE LINERS

March 18, 2009

It is with the utmost regret that I am informing all of the untimely death of our Secretary, Frank Egan.

Frank was involved in a head on crash about 9.15am last Sunday (15th March), approximately 5klms east of Cowra while travelling home to Lismore from the Blue Liners Grenfell ride. A four wheel drive had veered onto the incorrect side of the road and Frank had no warning or room to avoid the collision. I can not say any more about the accident as it is now a matter of Criminal Investigation and subsequent court proceedings.

Frank will be remembered by our club for a number of things including his unquestionable love for this club and his outstanding work in getting the job of Club Secretary running the most proficient I have ever seen any Secretary role being done in any club. He will also be greatly missed by his local Tweed/Gold Coast mob on their rides, we will all miss him a lot.

Frank is survived by a son and 2 daughters and they have asked that as many of Franks Blue Liner family that can attend his funeral,  please come along.  Frank would also be proud to show us off to his family, I can tell you that.

His funeral will be at the Lismore Crematorium, Goonellabah (just outside Lismore) at 11am on Monday 23 March. A group from Sydney will be leaving Maccas at Thornliegh at 8.30am on Sunday 22nd (this Sunday) and meet up with the Central Coast, Newcastle and Central West/Singleton mobs at Maccas at Raymond Terrace around 10.30am. Sunday night we will make Grafton easily and it is about an hour and a half ride to the funeral on Monday morning, hopefully with the Grafton mob.

We have been invited to the wake at the local RSL by Franks family and so we will probably stay in Lismore that night and head home Tuesday.

I realise a lot of you have to work and with such short notice and all that, but if it is at all possible to come along and see our little mate and Secretary off, then please make the effort. Get in touch with me at rob1ray@bigpond.net.au and tell me if you are coming, no need to let me know if you can not make it. If you can not use an email, then give me a ring on 0438 227 678 but an email is prefered.

It is a sad day for our club but those that were with Frank on Sunday, you all did an amazing job at the scene and the Sergeant from Cowra that did the acco would like me to pass on to you his praises in the professional manner that everyone conducted themselves, in particular and special mention to Erica, you are a legend my dear…….

Best regards to all

BIKE BIZ BUSH FIRE RIDE

March 11, 2009

G’day all, The Blue Liners have once again shown their commitment to providing support to worthy causes by combining with Sydney motorcycle dealer ‘Bike Biz’ to raise money for Bush Fire Victims in Victoria.  Last Sunday riders assembled in Western Sydney for the annual Lithgow Bush Fire Brigade ride, however this occasion was also to raise money for the victims of the devastating fires that have swept through Victoria taking life and property.  Assembled for the ride were over 900 motorcycles that travelled to Lithgow in brilliant sunshine to take part in this very worthy cause.  At Lithgow volunteers had their hands full feeding over 1,500 people, followed by Greg Hurst giving prayers for victims that had all the audience with bowed heads. The final tally for the fundraising was:

  • $27,000 Bush Fire Victims.
  • $5,000  Repeater station for the Lithgow District Bush Fire brigade.
  • $1,500 Oakville Rural Fire Service for providing assistance at McGraths Hill.
  • TOTAL    $33,500

I still have a number of Special Edition T shirts that I will be taking on some rides that cost $20 and the proceeds of these T shirts will still go to the Victims Appeal.  Best regards Robbo.
